Clearing Guilt and Shame - EFT with Brad Yates

It´s a Shame

Do you get the feeling sometimes that there is something WRONG with you… that you’re somehow “bad” and don’t deserve what other people get? If so…
It’s a SHAME.
I remember in elementary school how confident and bold I was. I loved learning new facts, figures, names, and places. I was outspoken. I figured that if someone was wrong about a fact, they would want to know that, right?
Not The Coronel. My sixth grade teacher. Retired military. And he did NOT like my attitude. To be a “good boy” you had to defer to his authority… and you certainly never challenged his assertions. So when I spoke out without permission… from the back of the class where I had already been relegated for insubordination… that he had spelled Euphrates wrong… he SHAMED me.
And that was a shame. Sent to the principal’s office. Mom contacted. Kids laughing at me, or shrinking under their desks to make sure they didn’t get shamed for supporting me… I got The Message. I was now a stupid bad boy who SHOULD have known better.
Can you feel how confused I was? I thought school was a place of learning! When *I* misspelled a word, I got a red circle around it. When he misspelled one of the most important rivers in civilization, *I* got punished. I was mad! I was scared. I felt all mixed up… and ashamed for not knowing what was Right anymore.
Did anything like that ever happen to you?
The whole situation deeply affected me. Even though in the end my Mom and the principal tried to keep me from overreacting in my shame, it was a trauma for me that resulted in going from liking my teacher to not trusting him at all. My brain made other associations, too, which affected me for many years: don’t trust military men, or people in positions of power. Don’t correct others even if they are teaching something incorrect. Hide your smarts.
It’s a shame that SHAME affects us so profoundly… yet is used so carelessly.
Shame sticks with us in some ways more than actual physical abuse. If I poke Jenny in the eye and steal her candy, and I get a whipping for it, well… there’s at least a connection between being a hurtful little thief and that being a punishable offense. There are other ways to teach that lesson than a whipping, but I’ve never had to tap with someone over “fair” punishment that was tied to an offense against understandable rules.
Shame, on the other hand, seeks to trigger us into a desperate NEED to get back into good graces, to be accepted back into the tribe. We get ostracized, criticized, and told we are BAD. That we no longer DESERVE food, comfort, or acceptance. This is so triggering of inner panic and terror that nothing else is as important as doing whatever it takes to go from being BAD to being GOOD again.
This tension is at the core of most chronic anxiety. This dynamic sets up such disharmony within us that it shows up as disease decades later. It underlies distrust in others… and in ourselves. It slops over into other aspects of our identity… we even become ashamed of being smart, pretty, confident, ambitious, skilled. Dreamers stop dreaming and huggers stop touching.
Ouch.
Alas, it gets worse. When someone feels shame, they get more of it heaped on them. It’s the sickest part of the law of attraction. A person who is walking “in shame” is assumed by our primitive tribal brain to be someone actually unacceptable! And thus gets treated unacceptably… over and over and over again.
It truly is a shame.
Is there a way to shift this? Yes. By changing our emotions from the vibration of shame to the vibration of acceptance. Shame keeps us stuck—in old patterns, old beliefs, old suffering. Acceptance frees our energy to move forward, to grow, to express ourselves.
The feeling of Acceptance comes in two parts. Unless you have both parts, you won’t feel good deeply and completely.
The first part is self-acceptance, where you connect with your past, your traumas, the rejections you had inflicted on you and that you inflicted on yourself… and come to a place of peace and self-compassion and forgiveness.
The second part is… group acceptance. And this is honestly thornier. Shame tries to force us to modify who we are in order to be accepted once again. Yet, a part of us knows when we’re faking it or morphing ourselves just to fit in. I want to be free to be myself, and that means I need to be selective and mindful about who I try to “fit in” with.
Indeed, my group model is not really about “fitting in” at all. It’s about celebrating with others who are offering safety and respect, encouragement and support… who love and accept the artist, the singer, the writer, the inventor, and the dancer even if the “style” isn’t exactly to our liking. (I may not adore your painting… I do so love and appreciate that you painted it!)
It’s about making room for everyone to experience the joy of self-expression. We open the “tribe” to all those who are expressing themselves in ways that are authentic, not just those whose specific works we judge to be personally pleasing to us.
Does that make sense? It’s about shifting from judgment as a way to control each other towards Acceptance as a way to free us all.
Is this something that speaks to your heart? If so, email me at support@thrivingnow.com and also let’s do some EFT Tapping together. (Visit http://www.thrivingnow.com/tapping for our free guide.)
Karate Chop:  Even though I feel so much shame, I deep and completely accept myself.
Even though I feel shame, that’s a shame… and I am open to accepting myself anyway.
Even though I was shown I was bad, unworthy, and unacceptable, I am on a journey to deeply and completely love and accept myself NOW.
Top of the Head: Yes, I feel shame.
Eyebrow: And that’s a shame.
Side of the Eye: It stops me…
Under the Eye: From being truly me.
Under the Nose: It stops me…
Chin:
From feeling truly free.
Collarbone: I makes me anxious…
Under the Arm: And steals my clarity.
Top of the Head: Now, I’m making some shifts.
Eyebrow: What if I was never a bad kid? I was just treated shamefully.
Side of the Eye: What if I’m acceptable.. right now?
Under the Eye:
It’s a shame to use shame.
Under the Nose: I’m tired of feeling so embarrassed.
Chin:
I’m done with shame as a weapon.
Collarbone: I’m releasing the shame now.
Under the Arm: I’m starting to feel more acceptable.
Top of the Head: They don’t understand me.
Eyebrow: And there’s no shame in that.
Side of the Eye: They don’t accept me.
Under the Eye:
And there’s no shame in that either!
Under the Nose: I have decided to understand me.
Chin:
I’m choosing to love and forgive myself.
Collarbone: I’m letting go of the pressure to please them.
Under the Arm: I’m embracing myself…
Top of the Head: I open myself to accepting that I am a Acceptably Good and Forgivable Person.
Take a deep breath.
Clearing shame is core to my heart’s mission. It’s a true delight to celebrate as members of our circle laugh and play, dance and sing, write and paint, build businesses, and co-create amazing love free of the shame that kept them boxed in for so long. If this is an area where you want relief, too, please email Cathy and me at support@thrivingnow.com. We have proven ideas that can help.

Acts of Love For Yourself by Rick Wilkes & Cathy Vartuli

We can feel cut off from ourselves at times, and our hearts can feel dry and alone. What can we do to help rekindle the love we feel for ourselves?

Simple acts of love can make partners feel warm and connected. The same can be true when we’re loving ourselves. It may take a bit to get the flow going again, especially if we’ve had a dry spell… or never learned how to love ourselves.

What makes you feel special when someone else does it? What was the last time your heart felt touched by someone else? Was it a thoughtful gift? Quiet time spent together? A warm hug? Help on a project that had been hanging over your head? A sincere compliment?

Why do you need to wait for someone else to help you fill your heart with love? Could you give yourself a small gift? Spend 20 minutes quietly meditating or taking a warm bath? Could you brush your hair gently and mindfully? Finish up the laundry that’s been staring you in the face for days as a gift for yourself? Offer yourself a kind word?

Many of us were taught that nice things had to come from the outside. We had to be good… patient… and MAYBE just maybe we’d get the love and appreciation we needed.

Ugh.

As adults, we don’t have to wait. We can help our heart feel loved, which raises our vibration and helps us attract more love and connection. And it feels empowering to know we aren’t dependent on the attention of others to feel good, doesn’t it?

What stops you from being kind to yourself? Experts often recommend that partners with marriage problems do one nice thing a day for their spouse, to help reconnect and open the flow. What is one nice thing you could do for yourself today?

Let’s do some tapping together…

Karate Chop: Even though I’m used to waiting for love from the outside, what if I can show myself I’m lovable right now?

Even though my heart feels empty and alone, and I’ve been asking for someone to fill it, I choose to start filling my own heart with love and feel more empowered and acceptable.

Even though I though I had to wait for them, or him, or her, I’m ready to start loving myself. I’m not giving up on others loving me… I definitely want that too, but I’ve decided to start filling my heart with love and connecting with myself, too.

Top of the Head: I thought if I was just good enough…
Eyebrow: They would fill my heart with love.
Side of the Eye: Then they would appreciate me.
Under the Eye: I do love receiving love and appreciation.
Under the Nose: But I’m tired of relying only on others.
Chin: What if I could start loving myself right now?
Collarbone: This isn’t what I’m used to.
Under the Arm: But self-love could be really, really good for me.

Top of the Head: I do want more love.
Eyebrow: I thought it had to come from them.
Side of the Eye: But maybe my heart is crying out for me, too.
Under the Eye: What if I could show myself that I’m loved…
Under the Nose: By me?
Chin: What could I do that would help me feel loved?
Collarbone: I could appreciate 3 things about me now.
Under the Arm: I could do something simple yet special for me.

Top of the Head: This is all really new to me.
Eyebrow: I may not get it right all the time.
Side of the Eye: But I would like to feel more love in my heart.
Under the Eye: I want love from them… true.
Under the Nose: And from me… now true.
Chin: I’m open to finding ways to show my love.
Collarbone: I ask the Universe to help me receive this.
Under the Arm: And to reconnect with myself.
Top of the Head: I’m ready to fill my heart with love, and allow all kinds of warmth to flow in.

Take a deep breath.

How does that feel? If it feels good, wonderful! A bit of practice and your heart can be overflowing with warm feelings!

If you had “yeah-buts” coming up, or lots of resistance, ask yourself why. When did you learn that you weren’t supposed to love yourself or do nice things for yourself? What are the “rules” you’d be breaking? Is it selfish to love yourself? Who told you so?

We personally find that when we feel loved and appreciated, we tend to radiate that and send many colors and flavors of appreciation to others. It’s much easier to connect when we feel safe and satisfied rather than depleted and deprived, right?!

If you’ve been looking for a supportive environment where you can learn and practice nurturing yourself and filling your heart with love, our Group Coaching Program is a wonderful way to connect. We delight in empowering people to love and appreciate themselves! Join us today!

Warm smiles,
Rick & Cathy

Tapping: "I've Done Everything I Can"

I've Done Everything I Can

When we’ve exhausted all our resources, done everything humanly and sometimes inhumanly possible, there are times when we don’t know what else to do but turn it over to a higher power.

This was written to help a woman who’s young daughter was dying, but it can apply to anyone who has struggled with the pain or suffering of a loved one, or in our own heart.

Tapping with EFT at such times can be a form of prayer… acknowledging honestly how we feel, and asking God for our heavy heart to be lifted up.

Karate Chop: Even though I’m overwhelmed, and I want to give up but I can’t, I ask the Universe to give me peace and clarity.

Even though it feels like there’s a pressing weight on me, and I don’t know where to turn for help… I have done all I know how to do, and I turn this over to the Universe.

Even though I feel frantic, this is so important and it’s not working out, I have done everything I can think of, and now I’m tapping and asking the Universe for miracles and inspiration.

Top of the Head: I really am overwhelmed.
Eyebrow: This is so important.
Side of the Eye: I’ve struggled and begged.
Under the Eye: I’ve done everything I can think of.
Under the Nose: I thought I had it worked out…
Chin: But it’s falling apart.
Collarbone: I feel frightened and hopeless.
Under the Arm: I don’t know what to do.

Top of the Head: This is so important.
Eyebrow: I tried so hard.
Side of the Eye: I can’t afford to fail at this!
Under the Eye: I acknowledge how important this is…
Under the Nose: And how hard I’ve tried.
Chin: I don’t know what else to do…
Collarbone: But turn this over to All That Is Loving… and tap.
Under the Arm: I need a miracle.

Top of the Head: I don’t know how it can work out.
Eyebrow: But that isn’t my job.
Side of the Eye: I ask God to help.
Under the Eye: I ask for divine inspiration and support.
Under the Nose: I need help now.
Chin: I don’t get to decide how that help will come… and that’s hard for me.
Collarbone: I ask for patience and calm.
Under the Arm: I ask the Universe to help me be open to unusual solutions.
Top of the Head: And I ask for help releasing what I cannot control.

Take a deep breath.

How do you feel after tapping?

When we ask for help, and stop trying to make things happen, we sometimes discover new possibilities. And sometimes we don’t… especially if the situation involves other Beings.

We know that’s really hard to hear. When we can’t do anything to make someone we love feel better, it can break our hearts. Sometimes, the only thing we can do it ask for solutions, and let it go. And we can tap so we feel a BIT more patient, connected, and calm so we can be there for the person we love and receptive to possibilities.

Karate Chop: Even though I’m upset because I couldn’t make this work, I ask for calm loving guidance so I can support and soothe my loved one.

Even though I feel terrible, and my mind won’t stop racing, I truly don’t know what else to do. I turn the problem over to the power that created my life and her’s, and I ask for peace and grounding.

Even though I feel so guilty and helpless… I can love her and be with her, and that’s a gift beyond measure. I am open to inspiration, and I ask for an open heart and a tender touch.

Top of the Head: This conflict is tearing me up.
Eyebrow: I feel like I should have a solution.
Side of the Eye: I love this person so much.
Under the Eye: I want to make it all better.
Under the Nose: I don’t know what else to do.
Chin: I’ve tried everything I can.
Collarbone: I’ve racked my brain and searched my mind.
Under the Arm: And I don’t have a solution.

Top of the Head: I am open to inspiration and miracles…
Eyebrow: But I want to be fully Present, too.
Side of the Eye: It’s hard to see a loved one suffer.
Under the Eye: It hurts me, too.
Under the Nose: I ask for courage…
Chin: And calm quiet inside.
Collarbone: I want to be a True Support.
Under the Arm: I’m willing to release my conflict.

Top of the Head: This does hurt.
Eyebrow: It’s almost unbearable.
Side of the Eye: But I love and accept us both…
Under the Eye: Just as we are.
Under the Nose: I want to be supportive.
Chin: And help us both feel safe and loved.
Collarbone: I need help with this.
Under the Arm: I ask the Universe to guide me.
Top of the Head: Please give me guidance, love, and courage.

Take a deep breath.

Does this help? We’re holding a Good Thought for you!

Seven minutes to natural pain release

Clutter cleanse

1) Start with ONE thing. It’s so easy to get sucked in and try to tackle a giant pile. But that rarely works. We tend to get emotionally overwhelmed and stop. Trust me on this one. Choose one item at a time. It will get easier and faster as you go. You’re building up muscles and before you know it, it will be second nature.
2) Choose someplace for it to go. If you don’t have specific places to send things, it makes it much harder to let them go.
- I got a small box for the things I wanted to keep.
- I put several boxes in my garage for the things I was giving to the shelter.
- And I had a big garbage bag for the things that could be thrown out.
- You can put a box next to the garbage for things that need to be shredded.
It made such a difference to have destinations. I ended up shredding 14 bags of old bills and papers. (Don’t worry–there are shredding trucks in lots of places now, where you pay a bit of money, they pull up to your house and shred it in front of your eyes. And some local libraries and municipal centers have shredding days that don’t cost a thing.)
3) Tap on what comes up when you look at that one item you chose. Anytime you run into resistance, do this tapping and you’ll quickly clear out the CAUSE of the clutter, as you clear out your home and office! Feel free to change the words to fit what you’re feeling.
Karate Chop: Even though I dread clearing ALL this clutter, this is ONE item, and I can make a decision about ONE thing right now.
Even though I have a lot of emotions around my clutter… I do have support in these words, right now, and I’m energetically not alone. I can release this piece of my clutter and give it a new home.
Even though I’m afraid to lose this item, because of the memories I’ve stored in it, and because I might need it later, the Universe is abundant and loving, and I can keep the memories and the security without necessarily keeping this item. I get to choose.
Top of the Head: I do get to choose.
Eyebrow: I ask for clarity.
Side of the Eye: I ask for ease.
Under the Eye: I’m tired of being buried in clutter.
Under the Nose: I’m scared…
Chin: And I’m also ready to grow.
Collarbone: I’m ready to release this armor of STUFF…
Under the Arm: And let in the abundance that I’ve been waiting for.
Top of the Head: All the OLD is blocking the NEW.
Eyebrow: The noise of the clutter is holding me back…
Side of the Eye: And making me tired.
Under the Eye: I reclaim that energy now.
Under the Nose: I don’t need this thing…
Chin: To feel loved and safe.
Collarbone: I invite the memories to stay…
Under the Arm: And the Universe to wrap me in loving arms.
Top of the Head: It’s time to change this pattern.
Eyebrow: It’s time to feel easy in my world.
Side of the Eye: I can release this item to the Universe…
Under the Eye: And accept abundance in return.
Under the Nose: I can release my fear and confusion to the Universe, too.
Chin: And invite ease and joy to come to me.
Collarbone: The Universe can transform and create…
Under the Arm: And send me energy, joy and inspiration…
Top of the Head: So this is surprisingly easy… and maybe even fun!
Take a deep breath.
Notice what came up for you. Write down any strong feelings and thoughts and do another round of tapping. Remember, you’re building muscles that will change how you look at clutter forever!
If you want more support and guidance for this, we invite you to our call this weekend. Bring an item of clutter with you so you can build your muscles now! You’ll have support and will borrow benefits from others in the process of getting clear.
